Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mayuri,
I hope this letter find you in good health, thank you so much for taking good care of my plants in my absence. Unfortunately, I found that my speaker was broken and it's not working.
I remember using it before my trip, as I often used it to play songs during my cooking. I guess while using it you must have dropped it. Because I can visibly see the dent on the front of the speaker. This would have made it unfunctional.
This has caused me a great discomfort in my daily routine, while playing songs, listening to podcast and doing my meditation has been greatly affected by the unfunctional speaker. I request you to replace it as it can't get repaired because of the broken parts. Additionally, I can also share you the amazon link you can easily place an order on my address.
Thank you for understanding and let me know if you need any help in finding the product. see you soon.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing the broken item, explaining its importance, and requesting a resolution. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a balance between being firm about the damage and remaining polite. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on the emotional value of the speaker or the specific circumstances of the damage to make the narrative more engaging. Overall, the response is well-focused and fully satisfies the requirements of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the greeting and context to the problem, the impact, and finally the proposed solution. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate these distinct ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Unfortunately', 'Additionally', and 'Because', which help the flow. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the connection between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the description of the damage and the request for replacement could be more fluid. Overall, the organisation is clear and easy to follow throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'valuable possession', 'discomfort', and 'daily routine'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'unfunctional' (the standard term is 'non-functional' or 'broken') and 'share you the amazon link' (should be 'share the link with you'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the variety and precision required for a higher band. Incorporating more natural collocations would enhance the overall quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I hope this letter find you' (should be 'finds'), 'I can also share you' (should be 'share with you'), and 'it can't get repaired' (should be 'it cannot be repaired'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, though some sentence boundaries are slightly awkward. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and passive voice construction will help improve your accuracy.
