Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: describing the broken Macbook, explaining its sentimental value, and requesting a repair. However, the tone is inconsistent. While the task asks for a letter to a friend, the language used—such as 'Aggression was on my face' and 'I am expecting you to do its repair'—is overly formal, aggressive, and unnatural for a friendly correspondence. The task is addressed, but the development of ideas lacks the appropriate register for the requested relationship, which limits the effectiveness of the communication.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, each addressing a specific requirement of the prompt. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, the transition 'Next i am expecting' is abrupt, and the use of 'than' instead of 'then' in 'than i saw' disrupts the flow. While the overall progression of ideas is clear, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive sentence structures make the cohesion feel somewhat basic.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the nuance required for a higher band. Phrases like 'Aggression was on my face' are unnatural collocations. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'went on lots of places' instead of 'visited many places'. While the meaning is clear, the range is limited, and the student relies on simple, sometimes inaccurate, phrasing rather than more precise or idiomatic language suitable for a letter to a friend.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writing contains a mix of simple and complex structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Common issues include missing articles ('on table'), incorrect verb tenses ('its broken by you'), and subject-verb agreement errors ('she is no more in this world this is last gift'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of capital letters for 'i'. These errors are frequent, though they do not completely impede the reader's understanding of the message.
