Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Ramya,

I hope this letter finds you well.

I believe you had a wonderful stay at my location last week. However, i want to bring to your attention that my blue flower vase was broken when i returned home.

I bought this limited edition piece from my recent Japan trip. I vividly remember that , it was in a good condition before i go for my recent trip. I really don't know what had happened to it. I know you have a pet and he was here with you . Perhaps that only made this mess unknowingly.

Coincidently, i heard that you are going for a trip to Japan next week and i am pleased to request if you could buy the same when you return that would be really appreciable. I can not even forget that one since that was so close to my heart. I will share the exac

I really looking forward a favorable response from your end.

Yours Sincerely,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points: describing the vase, explaining its importance, and requesting a replacement. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a friend, although the transition to the request is slightly abrupt. The ideas are relevant, but the development is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the vase is a 'limited edition' from Japan, you could have provided more descriptive detail to better convey its value. The letter is clear, but the ending is incomplete ('I will share the exac'), which impacts the overall task completion. To improve, ensure all sentences are finished and provide slightly more depth to your explanations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a logical structure, with each paragraph focusing on one of the required points. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'However' and 'Perhaps', which help the flow. However, the paragraphing is a bit inconsistent, and the transition between the incident and the request is slightly mechanical. The use of referencing is generally clear, though the unfinished sentence at the end disrupts the coherence of the final paragraph. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your paragraphing is balanced and that all thoughts are fully expressed.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'limited edition', 'vividly remember', and 'favorable response'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'at my location' (which sounds unnatural; 'at my place' or 'at my apartment' would be better) and 'appreciable' (which is not the correct word here; 'appreciated' would be more accurate). You also have some repetitive phrasing. To improve, try to use more precise collocations and ensure that your word forms are correct. Expanding your vocabulary to include more descriptive adjectives would also enhance the quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and capitalization. For example, 'i' should always be capitalized, and you use 'before i go' instead of 'before I went'. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and phrasing, such as 'I really looking forward a favorable response' (should be 'I am really looking forward to a favorable response'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to limit your score.
