Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Pushti ,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to inform about something happened when you visited my home last week when I was on my trip.
Just today morning, I came to home and showed that my apple watch was on the floor with broken glass. I always carry it with me but this time you wanted to wear it so that I leave it at home for you. But you didn't take care of it and put on dressing table instead of keeping in my wardrobe. This watch is very expensive as this is latest model of iWatch and it has been gifted by my sister just two weeks before on my birthday.
I request you to get it repair as soon as possible and I think it should also cover some amount under the insurance term. So , you have to pay only a few amounts for repairing.
Anyway , I hope everything gets sorted out soon. Let me know what you think.
Best regards

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: describing the broken item, explaining its importance, and stating the desired action. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, although the directness regarding the repair request is quite blunt. The ideas are clearly presented, and the purpose of the letter is immediately apparent. To reach a higher band, the student could develop the explanation of the item's importance with more personal detail, as the current explanation is somewhat brief. Overall, the task requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. The progression of ideas is easy to follow, moving from the situation to the description of the damage, the explanation of importance, and finally the request for action. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Anyway' and 'So', though some transitions are a bit mechanical. The use of referencing is generally clear, although the sentence 'I am writing to inform about something happened' is slightly awkward. Overall, the structure is coherent and effective for a short letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate the situation clearly. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'showed that my apple watch was on the floor' (should be 'discovered' or 'found') and 'get it repair' (should be 'repaired'). The student uses some specific terms like 'insurance term' and 'latest model', which are relevant. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a lack of more sophisticated collocations or idiomatic expressions that would elevate the response to a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'inform about something happened' (should be 'inform you about something that happened'), 'Just today morning' (should be 'This morning'), and 'gifted by my sister just two weeks before' (should be 'ago'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors throughout. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. The student needs to focus on verb tenses and preposition usage to improve accuracy.
