Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: the broken possession (MacBook screen), its importance (work and photos), and the requested action (repair via a friend). The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a friend, although the direct accusation regarding the camera recordings feels slightly confrontational for a friendly letter. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, covering the requirements of the task effectively. To improve, ensure the tone remains consistently friendly and supportive, even when addressing a difficult situation like property damage, to better reflect the relationship between the writer and the recipient.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, with each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. There is a clear progression from the initial greeting to the explanation of the incident, the importance of the item, and the final request. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition between the incident and the request could be smoother. Some sentences are short and choppy, which affects the flow. Using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'given that') would help to connect ideas more fluidly and improve the overall coherence of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the message to be conveyed clearly. There are some instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'came from vocations' (likely meaning 'vacation') and 'car model fall on it' (likely meaning 'toy car' or 'model car'). The word choice is generally functional but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. To reach a higher score, focus on using more natural collocations and precise terminology related to technology and personal items. Avoid repetitive sentence structures and try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary to describe the situation and your feelings.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('It is bought by me last month'), missing articles ('the my Apple macbook'), and punctuation errors (spaces before commas). While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors suggests a lack of control over more complex grammatical forms. Focusing on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and consistent tense management will significantly improve the accuracy and readability of your writing.
