Dear Manjot,

I'm writing this letter to you about the important things which were broken when I came back from my trip and I know that I let you to stayed at my house in my absence. Where I noticed that golden color flower pot was on the floor and it was completely broken.

Also, that pot was mean to me a lot because when I was in 8th standard my great grand mother gifted that to me. Since that day, I always keep pot in my kitchen, whenever, I miss her I saw that pot. I'm not angrry with you but anytime when I stay at your home, I always take care of things and keep in mind that I'm at my friend's house. So, I have to be very carefull.

Laslty, my birthday is coming in October, I would be over the moon, if I can get something from your great grand mother as a gift to remember my mother because we are best friends since the childhood and I also respect your family and I would be happy if they'll come to my birthday. Moreover, I'll forward the soft copy of the invitation card to your family.

I look forward for a reply from. See you soon!

Cheers,

Randeep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The candidate successfully covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You described the broken possession as a 'golden color flower pot', explained its sentimental importance because it was a gift from your great-grandmother received when you were in the 8th standard, and stated what you would like your friend to do regarding a replacement gift. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a friend, balancing the awkward situation with warmth and maintaining a friendly disposition ('I'm not angrry with you'). However, the third bullet point transitions rather abruptly into asking for a replacement gift from your great-grandmother (which seems slightly contradictory since the pot originally came from your own great-grandmother) and inviting the family to your birthday, which makes the specific request slightly unusual and humorous, though it still fully satisfies the prompt requirements. Ideas are clearly expressed and supported.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is divided into four paragraphs, reflecting a logical structure with an opening, description of the incident, explanation of significance, and a closing with birthday requests. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Also', 'Since that day', and 'Moreover', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or abrupt. Referencing is occasionally slightly unclear, for example in sentences like 'I'm writing this letter to you about the important things which were broken... Where I noticed that golden color flower pot was on the floor', where the relative clauses and conjunctions disrupt the natural flow of information. Paragraphing is used sufficiently, and the progression of ideas from the broken item to your feelings and finally to the birthday invitation maintains overall coherence despite minor mechanical linkage issues.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, successfully communicating personal feelings and descriptions. You attempted less common phrases such as 'over the moon' and 'soft copy of the invitation card'. However, there are noticeable lexical and spelling inaccuracies that occur throughout the text, such as 'angrry' (angry), 'carefull' (careful), and 'Laslty' (Lastly). Additionally, some word choices and collocations are awkward, such as 'that pot was mean to me a lot' instead of 'meant a lot to me', and 'whenever, I miss her I saw that pot' instead of 'see'. Despite these errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended message clearly without impeding communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures like 'whenever, I miss her I saw that pot' and 'if I can get something'. However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text. Examples include tense and infinitive mistakes such as 'I let you to stayed at my house' instead of 'stay', comma splices, and awkward run-on sentences like 'I'm writing this letter to you about the important things which were broken when I came back from my trip and I know that I let you to stayed at my house in my absence. Where I noticed that golden color flower pot was on the floor...' These errors require some effort from the reader to untangle, placing the grammar comfortably within the Band 5 descriptors.
