Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Josh,
Hope you doing well. Am writing this to inform you that my very fregile possession has been broken.
As you know i went on trip and as i came home is saw my special flower pot was demaged and its seems broken into many pieces i was shocked to saw that it totally broke my heart.
However, it was very special to me becouse it was gifted from my loved mother. She gifted me on my gardening classes in school time. i took care of this pot since i was in my that time. It is my sole gift that i got from my mother.
Although, it was broken into pieces but, still i have hope that we can fix it and make it as it before. So, i send you this to you may you fix it for me or maybe you can take it to pot maker he will repair it and might get as new it is before.
Your friend,
Amandeep Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you identify the flower pot, explain that it was a gift from your mother connected with your school gardening classes, and ask Josh to help repair it or take it to a pot maker. The personal reason makes the letter relevant, and the request is clear. This meets the task well, though some details are less fully developed: for example, you could describe the pot’s appearance or explain more specifically what you expect Josh to do and by when. The opening and closing suit a friendly letter. To strengthen the response further, develop the key details while keeping the request tactful and precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it introduces the damage, explains the pot’s sentimental value, and then makes a request. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, and links such as “However” and “Although” show an attempt to connect ideas. Some connections are awkward or unclear, however. “Although, it was broken into pieces but” uses two contrasting linkers together, while “So, i send you this to you” makes the final request difficult to follow. The sequence is understandable, but cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is not always clear. Use simpler transitions where needed and make each paragraph’s main point flow directly into the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main message, with relevant expressions such as “special flower pot,” “gifted from my mother,” and “broken into many pieces.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling or word-choice errors reduce accuracy, including “fregile,” “demaged,” “becouse,” and “pot maker.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “it totally broke my heart” for describing the discovery and “make it as it before.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the situation, but they make the letter less fluent. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, “fragile,” “damaged,” and “repairer” would be more appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including “As you know i went on trip and as i came home…” and “Although, it was broken into pieces but…”. However, the longer structures are often faulty, and errors in verb forms, articles, sentence boundaries, and punctuation sometimes make the message harder to read. Examples include “Hope you doing well,” “i saw,” and “i took care of this pot since i was in my that time.” The request sentence also repeats “you” and has an unclear structure. Use complete clauses with consistent tense, and practise forming one clear complex sentence at a time. Capitalise “I” and punctuate sentence openings and endings consistently.
