Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir, I hope you are doing well. Hope you enjoyed stay at my apartment. I am writing this letter with a concern of my valueable possession. I am thankful that you stayed at my apartment and took care for its safety. I found my rooms clean and tidy when I returned. Moreover, I saw my coffee table was broken. My mother gifted this table to me. My feelings and emotions attached with that table. Furthermore, I uesd to read newspaper while enjoying coffee on this table. Unfortuneately its broken now. I completely understands it got broken by mistake. In addition, My mom specially customised that coffee table from Sialkot. It was quite expensive and made up of wood and glass. I would be grateful if you could arrange me another table of the same size, or you could tell me any merchant you know that can customise such table for me. Thanks. I look forward to the response. Yours Sincerely, Saba

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The letter covers all three required points: you identify the broken coffee table, explain its sentimental and practical importance, and ask your friend to arrange a replacement or recommend a merchant. The details that your mother gave it to you and that you used it while having coffee make the explanation relevant. However, the importance is only briefly developed, and the request is not fully clear: “arrange me another table” could mean buying one, paying for it, or helping you find one. The opening “Dear Sir” also does not suit a letter to a friend. A warmer greeting and a more specific, tactful request would make the purpose and relationship clearer.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The information follows a generally sensible order: you begin with the stay, describe what you found, explain the table’s significance, and then make a request. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “In addition” help signal connections, but their repeated use makes the progression feel somewhat mechanical. The paragraphing is also limited, with several distinct points crowded together. Some references are unclear, particularly “I am thankful that you stayed at my apartment and took care for its safety,” which does not clearly connect to the discovery of the damage. Group the discovery and description together, then explain the table’s importance and make the request in a separate paragraph, using simpler transitions where appropriate.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the situation, including “valuable possession,” “customised,” “merchant,” and “look forward to the response.” These choices help communicate the table’s value and your proposed solution. There are, however, several spelling and word-choice errors, such as “valueable,” “uesd,” and “Unfortuneately,” and some phrases are not natural in this context: “my feelings and emotions attached with that table” and “arrange me another table.” The meaning remains understandable, but more accurate collocations would make the letter sound clearer and more natural. Practise checking spelling and choosing conventional phrases for explaining sentimental value and requesting help.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple statements and attempts at more complex forms, for example, “I would be grateful if you could…” and “when I returned.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. “I completely understands” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, while “I found my rooms clean and tidy” and “its broken now” show problems with number and verb form. The sentence “My feelings and emotions attached with that table” is missing a verb and has an unclear grammatical pattern. There are also punctuation and capitalisation inconsistencies, including “Moreover, My mom.” Review agreement, complete sentence structure, and contractions, then proofread each sentence for accuracy.
