Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three required points: you identify the broken laptop screen, explain that the device stores project information and important family documents, and ask your friend to contribute towards replacing the display. These details make the purpose clear and relevant. However, some ideas are not fully developed: for example, you do not explain how the laptop was damaged or give your friend a clear, specific request about what action to take or when. The opening also includes an unclear phrase, “something something,” which obscures what you intended to tell your friend. A more direct explanation and a tactful, precise request would make the message more complete and effective.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The message follows a generally sensible order: it introduces your return, describes the damage, explains the laptop’s importance, and ends with a request. This gives the reader an overall clear progression. However, the ideas are crowded into a few long blocks, and paragraphing does not clearly separate the letter’s main purposes. Some linking is also awkward or mechanical, particularly “On the other side,” which does not express the relationship between the laptop’s work files and family documents clearly. The repeated opening wording, “I am writing you this letter,” followed by “I wanted to put across,” adds little. Use distinct paragraphs and simpler transitions such as “It is important because” to make the connections easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the situation, including “replacement,” “display,” “projects,” and “Title deeds,” and you attempt expressive language such as “shocked” and “heartbroken.” This gives you enough range to communicate the main message. However, several spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural phrases reduce accuracy: “disapointed,” “broaken,” and “usefull” should be corrected, while “put across in your mind” and “facilitate me in finding and contributing some funds” are not natural collocations. “Data and informations” also uses an incorrect plural form. Choose straightforward, accurate expressions—for example, say that you “want to let you know” and ask your friend to “help cover the cost of replacing the screen.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple statements and attempts at longer structures, such as “It helps me store my data and informations …” and “I wanted to put across … while I was not there.” The main meaning is generally understandable, but some sentence structures and grammatical forms are inaccurate. For instance, “I am writing you this letter” needs “to” before “you,” and “something something that i discovered … in my that i had left” is incomplete and difficult to parse. There are also issues with articles and number, as in “on the screen” and “informations,” as well as inconsistent capitalisation and punctuation. Build longer sentences around one clear main clause, then check articles, prepositions, and sentence boundaries.
