Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear friend,

I hope you are doing well.

I am writing this email to explain the situation happened recently. I figure out after return at home that my possession is broken. It was my birthday present given by my late grandfather, and I hold it as his memory.

The possession is completely broken at the top and even I can't able to hold it on my hands.

Please do something needfull or you can do one thing, please check online and on market place because it is very important for me. In case you find something similar, please let me know. Secondly, you should pay me back if you can not find same. I need to fix it as soon as possible until my parents findout this because it will cause emotional distress.

I hope to hear back from you soon.

Please contact me as soon as possible.

Your friend,

Tanu

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three required points: you identify the possession as a birthday present from your late grandfather, explain its sentimental value, and ask your friend to look for a similar item or repay you. The emotional importance is clear in “I hold it as his memory,” and the requested actions are relevant. However, the possession itself is never named, and “broken at the top” does not give enough detail for the friend to understand what has happened or whether repair is possible. The request to repay you is also softened by “if you can,” while the reason your parents must not find out is unclear. Develop these details and make the desired outcome more precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter follows a generally sensible order: it opens with the purpose, describes the damage and its significance, then makes requests and closes politely. Linking expressions such as “In case” and “Secondly” help signal the sequence. However, the main information is crowded into one paragraph, so the description, emotional explanation and requests are not clearly separated. Some connections are also difficult to follow: “I need to fix it as soon as possible until my parents findout this” does not clearly explain how the repair relates to your parents. Use short paragraphs for the situation, its importance and your request, and make the relationship between ideas explicit rather than relying on sequencing words.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to a personal letter, including “birthday present,” “late grandfather,” “emotional distress” and “similar,” which communicates the sentimental context and your request. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, but several word choices or forms are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “my possession,” “do something needfull,” and “find same.” Spelling and word formation issues in “needfull” and “findout” also reduce accuracy. These do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but they make the letter less natural and precise. Name the object directly and choose conventional expressions for damage, repair and compensation to make your meaning clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple sentences and more complex forms, for example, “It was my birthday present given by my late grandfather” and the conditional “if you can not find same.” The overall meaning is usually understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. In “I figure out after return at home,” the verb tense and verb forms are not controlled; “I can't able to hold it” combines incompatible structures; and “until my parents findout this” has an unclear clause construction. There are also missing or incorrect articles and prepositions in phrases such as “at home” and “on my hands.” Practise accurate past-tense narration and conditional requests, while keeping sentence structures straightforward until these patterns are secure.
