Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Mr. Robert,
Hope this letter finds you well. As a owner of one of your building's apartment I am writing this letter to inform you about a serious issue which I am facing since few days.
Actually, last night when I was going to kitchen from my bedroom i noticed some water falling on my living room's floor, when I tried to inspect from where the water is coming I saw there is a leakage in the living area roof. Due to this water leakage my expensive furniture is getting damaged, and it has become difficult for me and my family to walk safely there.
According to me, it is your responsibility as a building manager to find the solution for this problem as soon as possible. You can contact the building's plumber to come in and repair the area from where the water id leaking.
Moreover, I request you to please come visit our house and see the issue by yourself once, so that you can find the best suitable solution. Also, because of this water leakage my living area's roof paint is destroyed too, I will be very thankful to you if you can make someone to correct it from the building's budget.
Looking forward for you response.
Your's truly,
Kom

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: the problem is described, a solution is proposed, and a request for a visit is made. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a building manager. The ideas are clearly presented, and the purpose of the letter is evident from the start. To reach a higher band, the student could provide more specific details about the urgency of the situation or the exact location of the damage to better develop the ideas. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with a logical progression from the introduction of the problem to the proposed solution and the final request. Cohesive devices such as 'Actually', 'Moreover', and 'Also' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The paragraphing is sufficient, and the flow of information is easy to follow. To improve, the student should aim for a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'the issue') is consistently clear throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe the situation clearly. Phrases like 'serious issue', 'expensive furniture', and 'best suitable solution' are used correctly. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'as a owner' (should be 'as an owner') and 'make someone to correct it' (should be 'have someone correct it'). The range of vocabulary is sufficient for the task but lacks the sophistication or precision required for higher bands. Expanding the use of more precise descriptive language would enhance the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'since few days' (should be 'for a few days'), 'from where the water id leaking' (typo), and 'Your's truly' (should be 'Yours truly'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences and minor errors in article usage. The errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage would be beneficial.
