Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear sir
I am writing to inform you that the kitchen tap is leaking.
The problem with the kitchen tap is its leaking too badly. I just came home from a vacation and first thing I noticed was that my whole kitchen is wet due to the leak. The leak is from under the sink area.
I want you to send a plumber at my apartment as soon as possible as my kitchen is wet and now the water is running to direction of my bedroom and some of friends is coming to my house today's evening for a house party.
I also want you to come see the problem in my apartment as you get know that its something what i have done or its leaking because of me. I really appreciate if you come as soon as possible.
Kind Regards,
Jaspreet Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: the problem is described, a solution is proposed, and a visit is requested. However, the response is under the 150-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the task achievement score. While the tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding the house party is slightly irrelevant to the core issue of the repair. To improve, you should expand on the urgency of the repair and ensure the word count is met to fully develop your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use basic cohesive devices like 'I am writing to', 'The problem with', and 'I also want you to'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the leak description and the house party is abrupt. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that connects smoothly to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on simple phrases such as 'leaking too badly' and 'come see the problem'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'running to direction of my bedroom'. To improve, you should aim for more precise terminology related to maintenance and repairs, and work on using more natural collocations. Expanding your range of vocabulary will help you express your needs more clearly and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'send a plumber at my apartment' (should be 'to'), 'as you get know that its something what i have done' (should be 'as you get to know if it is something that I have done'), and 'some of friends is coming' (should be 'some of my friends are coming'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally impede the flow of reading, though the overall meaning remains clear.
