Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Manager,
I am writing to draw your prompt attention to the problem in an apartment with which I am dealing every day.
The biggest challenge for my family and me is our bathroom shower, which is not working at all. We have to fill buckets for getting shower, which required additional efforts. I would like to mention, our grandparents are not able to lift heavy buckets. Hence, we have to do their part too, which is really time consuming, due to our hectic work schedules. As a result, many times I got late for my work, which seems very unprofessional.
I would formally request that you to get this issue resolve as soon as possible. As you know we recently moved in this area, and do not have any contact of any plumber. I want you to contact plumber to fix this isuue.
I request you to visit or appartment s

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points: describing the problem, suggesting a solution, and requesting a visit. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a building manager. However, the letter ends abruptly mid-sentence ('I request you to visit or appartment s'), which leaves the final requirement incomplete. While the ideas are relevant, the development is slightly hindered by this sudden termination. To improve, ensure you provide a clear closing statement and a formal sign-off to complete the letter structure effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the introduction of the problem to its impact and finally the requested action. You use some cohesive devices like 'Hence' and 'As a result' to link ideas. However, the paragraphing is not fully developed, and the abrupt ending disrupts the overall flow of the text. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph is complete and that you use a wider variety of linking words to connect your sentences more fluidly throughout the entire piece.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'prompt attention', 'heckling work schedules', and 'unprofessional'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'isuue' and 'appartment', which are likely slips but still noticeable. The vocabulary is generally functional and appropriate for the context of a formal complaint. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and ensure careful proofreading to eliminate basic spelling errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I would like to mention, our grandparents are not able to lift heavy buckets.' There are several grammatical errors, including 'fill buckets for getting shower' (should be 'to take a shower') and 'I would formally request that you to get this issue resolve' (should be 'that you get this issue resolved'). These errors do not prevent understanding, but they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy of the writing.
