Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: describing the problem, suggesting a solution, and requesting a visit. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a building manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of the leak could be more precise, and the suggestion for the manager to talk to the neighbor is a bit abrupt. While the purpose of the letter is clear, the response would benefit from more professional phrasing and a slightly more formal structure to fully meet the requirements of a Band 6 or higher.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the flow of information. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and sometimes mechanical. For instance, the transition between the description of the leak and the request for a visit is abrupt. There is a lack of linking words to connect ideas smoothly within sentences. Additionally, the punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and sentence boundaries, which occasionally disrupts the logical progression of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. There are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'flat person' instead of 'neighbor' or 'resident,' and 'weekoff' instead of 'day off.' The phrasing 'take a proper action' is slightly unnatural. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and the errors in word formation and collocation prevent the response from reaching a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('there is problem', 'this issue need to solve'), missing articles ('in new maninagar area'), and incorrect verb forms ('that need to be repair'). Punctuation is also problematic, with several run-on sentences and missing commas. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to cause some difficulty for the reader and indicate a lack of control over complex structures.
