Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: describing the problem, suggesting a solution, and requesting a visit. However, the response is under the 150-word minimum, which limits the development of ideas. The tone is somewhat informal and lacks the professional structure expected in a formal letter to a building manager. While the core requirements are met, the brevity and lack of formal register prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you expand on the impact of the issues and use a more professional tone throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter lacks clear paragraphing, which makes the flow of information feel disjointed. While there is a basic logical progression from the problem to the request, the use of cohesive devices is minimal and sometimes awkward, such as the repetitive use of 'because' and 'and'. The letter would benefit from clearer transitions between the description of the damage and the proposed action. Improving the use of linking words like 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'therefore' would help create a more professional and coherent structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. There are several spelling errors, such as 'bulding' instead of 'building' and 'monohor' (likely intended as a name, but unclear). Phrases like 'getting worst' and 'not an small issue' show a limited grasp of collocations and grammatical accuracy in word choice. To achieve a higher band, you should aim for more precise vocabulary, such as 'deteriorating' instead of 'getting worst' and 'urgent repairs' instead of 'proper work'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the mirror is broken', 'the building need proper work') and punctuation errors, such as incorrect spacing before commas. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. There are also issues with article usage and tense consistency. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for punctuation and spelling errors before finalizing your work.
