Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope this email finds you well.
I am writing this email to express my dissatisfaction with my new apartment 305 which I recently moved on Jun 1, 2026.
Unfortunately, several issues were arised after few weeks. Firstly, several lights were not working despite fixing it and repairing the light. Secondly, there was water leakage in the kitchen that made the kitchen dirty. Lastly, some doors have been jammed because of the harsh cold winter.
I would appreciate it if you could renovate the house and fix all the problems that occur in the house as soon as possible so that i can study and focus on my academics.
I would be grateful if you could visit the apartment in the evening thus it will give you broad overview what needed to be fix so that we can live healthy & freely.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points: describing the problems, suggesting a solution, and requesting a visit. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a building manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the request to 'renovate the house' is quite vague and perhaps overly ambitious for minor repairs like lights and jammed doors. To improve, you should provide more specific details about the urgency or the impact of these issues to better justify your request for a visit. Overall, the task requirements are met, but the depth of the response could be enhanced.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Lastly' to sequence your points, which makes the text easy to follow. However, the transition between the problems and the request for a visit is slightly abrupt. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the flow could be improved by using more varied linking phrases rather than relying solely on simple enumerators. The referencing is generally clear, though some sentences feel slightly disconnected due to the limited range of cohesive devices employed.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'dissatisfaction', 'leakage', and 'reference'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For instance, 'issues were arised' is incorrect; it should be 'issues arose' or 'issues were identified'. Additionally, 'renovate the house' is likely too strong a term for minor repairs; 'carry out repairs' would be more precise. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the flexibility and precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'moved on Jun 1' (should be 'moved in on June 1st'), 'fixing it and repairing the light' (redundant), and 'thus it will give you broad overview what needed to be fix' (should be 'which will give you a broad overview of what needs to be fixed'). While these errors do not prevent communication, they indicate a lack of control over complex structures and verb tenses, which keeps the score in the 6.0 range.
