Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Landlord,
I am writing to express my concern regarding a few problems that your tenant's have been facing since two months ago.
In out apartment, the kitchen sink is getting clogged majority of the time ,especially after cleaning the vessels. This causing piling up of dirty dishes and result in a stinky smell ,spreading all over the apartment. In addition, heater in the living room is not functioning properly . Especially , during the night, the apartment feels extremely cooler ,which casing us sleep deprivation.
I think , it would be beneficial if you could visit the place sooner as possible .So , we can avoid smore consequences which would likely affecting us further. I believe that , booking a plumber for the sink checking would be a great idea to curb this issue as of now. Also , purchasing a new model heater for the apartment would be a great solution too.
I look forward to hearing a positive response from you soon. I would appreciate all the time and effort you have taken in resolving these issues .
Yours sincerely,
kee.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the problems (sink and heater), suggesting solutions (plumber and new heater), and requesting a visit. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a building manager. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, ensuring the reader understands the nature of the issues and your expectations. To reach a higher band, ensure that the opening and closing are more standard for formal correspondence (e.g., 'Dear Mr./Ms. [Name]' and 'Yours sincerely' followed by your full name).
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition' and 'Also' to link your ideas. However, there are some issues with punctuation and sentence structure that occasionally disrupt the flow, such as the placement of commas and the use of 'So' at the start of a sentence. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words would help the text progress more smoothly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary to communicate the problems effectively. Phrases like 'sleep deprivation' and 'functioning properly' are used well. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice or minor errors, such as 'tenant's' (should be 'tenants'), 'cleaning the vessels' (which sounds unnatural; 'washing dishes' is better), and 'smore consequences' (likely a typo for 'more'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the heater'), verb forms ('casing us sleep deprivation' instead of 'causing'), and punctuation (incorrect spacing before commas). The use of 'since two months ago' is also grammatically incorrect; 'for two months' would be the standard form. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message.
