Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr. Joey,
I am writing to bring your attention a matter regarding leakage at the entrance of the building that occurred today morning.
The problem stems from the construction of a new drainage system, the minors were not aware of the passage of water supply pipes and resulted into the breakdown of a pipe. Therefore, the water is continuously logging near the entrance and it become hard to pass by walking.
Regarding the solution, I think that normal taping to the pipe will not fix the problem and we have to install a new pipe; hence, you need to contact PSL Solution Agency for the repair work as they have qualified workers that can fix the problem smoothly.
In light of these circumstances, I suggest that you should have a visit to our apartment and check out the problem. After, you can book the agency for the maintenance.
I hope you will give this matter your immediate attention. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Yours sincerely,
Anshu Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: the problem is described, a solution is proposed, and a request for a visit is made. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a building manager. However, the explanation of the cause is slightly confusing, specifically the use of 'the minors' (likely meaning 'miners' or 'workers') and the phrasing 'resulted into the breakdown'. While the task is fulfilled, the development of ideas could be more precise to ensure the reader fully understands the situation without ambiguity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the problem, the proposed solution, and the request for action. Cohesive devices such as 'Therefore', 'Regarding', and 'In light of these circumstances' are used to link ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the connection between the cause of the leak and the proposed solution could be tighter to improve the overall progression of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. You use some specific terms like 'drainage system' and 'maintenance'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'logging' (likely meaning 'pooling' or 'accumulating') and 'the minors' (which is unclear). The phrase 'bring your attention a matter' is missing the preposition 'to'. To reach a higher band, focus on more precise vocabulary for technical issues and ensure prepositions are used correctly with verbs.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'today morning' (should be 'this morning'), 'resulted into' (should be 'resulted in'), and 'have a visit to our apartment' (should be 'visit our apartment'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. The sentence structure is generally clear, but more attention to verb patterns and idiomatic phrasing would improve the accuracy of your writing.
