Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear John,
I am writing to inform you about a repair in my apartment. The bathroom sink has been leaking for the few days and the water is constantly dripping onto the floor. As a result, floor remain wet and i worried that it may cause damage, if won't get fixed.
I think a plumber should visit my apartment and check the pipes under the sink. If, any part is damaged, it should be repaired or replaced as soon as possible. I have tried to tighten the tap, but unfortunately, it has not solved the problem.
Could you please visit my apartment to see the problem yourself? It would be good to see problem and find solution as soon as possible. Please let me know a good time to visit my apartment.
Yours faithfully,
Dhruv

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have addressed all three bullet points: describing the problem, suggesting a solution, and requesting a visit. However, the response is under the 150-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the task achievement score. To improve, you should expand on the details. For example, you could explain how the leak is affecting your daily routine or specify a preferred time frame for the visit. While the tone is appropriate for a letter to a building manager, the lack of sufficient length prevents a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'As a result' and 'However' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by minor grammatical errors that affect the cohesion of sentences, such as 'floor remain wet'. To reach a higher band, ensure that your referencing is consistent and that you use a wider variety of linking words to connect your sentences more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate the problem clearly. You use relevant terms like 'leaking', 'plumber', and 'pipes'. However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are also minor errors in word choice and article usage, such as 'find solution' instead of 'find a solution'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations related to maintenance and repairs to demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'floor remain wet' (should be 'the floor remains wet'), 'i worried' (missing 'am'), and 'if won't get fixed' (missing subject 'it'). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not completely impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and pronouns.
