Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Manager,
Greetings for the day!
I am writing this letter to giving you concern that there is water leakage problem in your one of apartment which is red apple. Moreover, I am facing this issue since from on week and there is also a big crack in down ceiling due to this I am afraid that it can be fallen at anytime.
As, I think that water problem can be solve by calling a professional plumber and as for the crack in down ceiling it may need a repair by good architecture.
Additionally, I am requesting you that you would visit this apartment and see the problem and by watching so you can give your own opinion and you may do some initiatives and solve the problem as soon as possible. Furthermore, I can adjust myself in residing other flat until this issue will solve.
Hope you would believe my words and do work on this!
Yours Faithfully,
Rohan Singla.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter covers all three bullet points: the problem is described, a solution is proposed, and a request for a visit is made. However, the tone is inconsistent and occasionally informal, which is not ideal for a formal letter to a building manager. The description of the problem is clear, but the suggestion to use an 'architecture' for a ceiling crack is inaccurate, as a contractor or builder would be more appropriate. The ideas are relevant, but the development is somewhat simplistic. To improve, ensure the tone remains professional throughout and use more precise terminology when describing repair requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the sequence of events. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Additionally', and 'Furthermore' are used to link ideas. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by grammatical errors. The overall structure is coherent, but the progression of ideas could be smoother with more natural linking phrases rather than relying on standard transition words at the start of every sentence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'giving you concern' instead of 'expressing my concern' and 'down ceiling' instead of 'ceiling'. The phrase 'do work on this' is too informal for a formal request. While the meaning is clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and the student struggles with appropriate collocations. Expanding the range of formal expressions and focusing on accurate word choice would significantly improve the score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that distract the reader. Examples include 'there is water leakage problem in your one of apartment' (article and preposition errors), 'since from on week' (incorrect preposition usage), and 'it can be fallen' (incorrect passive voice). Additionally, there are issues with verb tense consistency, such as 'until this issue will solve'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. More attention to basic sentence construction and verb forms is needed.
