Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Manager,
I hope you are doing well. I writing this letter in regards to inform you about a leakage in the apartment no. 204 of the O building. The leaking has gotten really bad now and it needs a repair to be fixed. The main problem about the leakage is that it is formed exactly on the top of our bathtub which is why we are not able to shower properly.
I believe till the time we can take a help with a plumber and we can inform the people who live above us to not to use the wash area for a while so that the leakage can be stopped.
In the meantime, you can have a visit at our place at any time today as I am on a day off. I would really appreciate you if you can sort this matter as soon as you can because it has been a long time now for the leakage and it is very frustrating.
Thanks for your understanding and co-operation.
Best regards,
Cena

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: describing the leakage, suggesting a solution, and requesting a visit. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a building manager. The ideas are clearly presented, though the suggestion regarding the plumber and the upstairs neighbors is slightly confusing in its phrasing. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the requirements of the prompt are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the problem from the proposed solution and the request for a visit. Cohesive devices such as 'In the meantime' and 'which is why' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing for clear communication. There are some minor inaccuracies in collocation, such as 'take a help with a plumber' (should be 'seek assistance from a plumber') and 'sort this matter' (which is acceptable but could be more formal). While the range is sufficient, it lacks the variety of less common lexical items that would push the score into the higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I writing this letter' (missing auxiliary verb 'am'), 'on the top of' (should be 'above'), and 'not to use' (the 'to' is redundant after 'ask/tell'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede the overall meaning of the letter. A wider range of error-free complex structures would be required for a higher band.
