Student answer (Band 6.5)
Task-1
Dear Sir,
Letter to inform the breakage of window.
Good morning Sir, my name is Rajpreet Kaur, live in 107-D Block. I have an issue with the window of the bedroom as it was broken last night due to the heavy raining and wind whereas, it creates a lot of sound when it is windy outside.
As you know, crime rate is risen day by day, so, it is very risky to leave the house with a broken window. Beside this, it is very discomfortable to sleep in a noisy enviornment due to a lot of noise comes from outside the window. Thus, I want you should have visit the appartment to take suitable measures to repair the window.
Additionally, you should replace the whole glass to make it more safer for ourselves. However, it is very appreciable if you provide it with blinds folds to add on some privacy to us. I advised to you to come after 5pm to look at the problem and take some required actions to the solve the obstacle.
I would love to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Rajpreet Kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter covers all three bullet points: the problem is described, a solution is proposed, and a request for a visit is made. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a building manager. However, the development of ideas is slightly uneven. For instance, the mention of the 'crime rate' is a bit tangential to a simple window repair request. The letter is clearly structured, and the purpose is immediately obvious to the reader. To reach a higher band, ensure that the suggestions for repair are more focused on the specific maintenance issue rather than general security concerns.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the problem to the requested action. Cohesive devices such as 'As you know', 'Beside this', and 'Additionally' are used to link sentences, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical or are used with minor grammatical inaccuracies (e.g., 'Beside this' should be 'Besides this'). Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the introduction, the body, and the conclusion, which helps the reader follow the narrative easily.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the message to be conveyed clearly. There are some instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choices, such as 'breakage of window' (should be 'broken window'), 'discomfortable' (should be 'uncomfortable'), and 'blinds folds' (should be 'blinds'). The spelling of 'enviornment' is incorrect. While the student attempts to use a range of vocabulary, these errors occasionally distract the reader. More precise terminology related to home maintenance would improve the overall quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'crime rate is risen' (should be 'has risen'), 'I want you should have visit' (should be 'I would like you to visit'), and 'I advised to you' (should be 'I advise you'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with sentence boundaries and comma usage. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding the core message of the letter. Increasing the accuracy of verb tenses and modal verbs would help improve the score.
