Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Rob,
I am Dhruti Panchal living in suite 1603 of 16th floor. I am writing to inform you about the consequences i am facing because the door of refrigerator is broken and not able to lock properly.
I am currently facing so many situations because of this as my refrigerator is not cooling adequately as of broken door. My food is getting bed as not having proper temperature, as a result I cannot cook in advance for my next day. I feel that you should visit here and call the technician to see what the real problem is, so that we could figure it out earliest and that would help me with my routine.
I have already submitted the request to the maintenance to repair it but no one came to see it. So i am requesting you to visit our suite to observe the issue and take proper action to make it usable.
Thank you for your time and support.
Yours truly,
Dhruti

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly describe the broken refrigerator door, explain the impact on your food and cooking, and request a visit from the manager. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a building manager. However, the development of ideas is slightly repetitive, particularly regarding the refrigerator's condition. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph adds new information rather than restating the problem. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the problem description from the request for action. You use some cohesive devices like 'as a result' and 'however,' though the flow is occasionally slightly mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, and the progression of ideas from the problem to the desired solution is easy to follow. To improve, try to vary your transition words to make the connections between sentences feel more natural and less formulaic.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your message effectively. Phrases like 'inform you about the consequences' and 'observe the issue' are appropriate for the context. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'my food is getting bed' (should be 'bad' or 'spoiling') and 'not able to lock properly' (should be 'unable to lock'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your range of collocations would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'I am Dhruti Panchal living in suite 1603 of 16th floor' (missing 'the'), 'as of broken door' (should be 'due to the broken door'), and 'submitted the request to the maintenance' (unnecessary 'the'). Additionally, there are some punctuation and capitalization errors, such as the lowercase 'i'. These errors occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score, though they do not cause significant difficulty for the reader.
