Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with my recent stay in building 204. I stayed at my home for three nights, from 10th to 13th August, while I was visiting the city for a short holiday.
Firstly, I was disappointed with the condition of my room. The air conditioning was not working properly, which made the room extremely uncomfortable, especially during the night. In addition, the bathroom was not clean when I arrived, and despite informing the reception staff, the problem was not resolved immediately.
Furthermore, I was dissatisfied with the service provided by the hotel staff. And also i want you to visit my appartment and see this issues. On several occasions, I had to wait for a considerable amount of time to receive assistance. This negatively affected my overall experience and caused significant inconvenience during my stay.
Therefore, I would appreciate it if you could investigate these issues and take appropriate action to improve your services. Considering the inconvenience I experienced, I would also like to request a partial refund or another suitable form of compensation.
I look forward to hearing from you and hope that this matter will be resolved promptly.
Yours faithfully,
Dhiraj

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points: describing the problem, suggesting a solution, and requesting a visit. However, the content is slightly misaligned with the prompt. The task asks you to write to a 'building manager' about a problem in your 'apartment'. Your response discusses a 'hotel' stay, 'reception staff', and a 'room'. This suggests you have misinterpreted the context of the task. While the tone is appropriate for a formal letter, the content is not entirely relevant to the specific scenario provided. To improve, ensure you carefully read the prompt to distinguish between a residential issue and a hospitality complaint.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'In addition', 'Furthermore', and 'Therefore' to link ideas effectively. However, there is a minor issue with paragraphing and flow in the third paragraph, where the sentence 'And also i want you to visit my appartment' is awkwardly placed and lacks proper capitalization. Despite this, the overall progression of ideas is easy to follow, and the letter maintains a consistent formal structure throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary suitable for a formal complaint, such as 'dissatisfaction', 'uncomfortable', 'considerable amount', and 'appropriate action'. There are some minor issues, such as the repetition of 'dissatisfied' and the slight misuse of 'apartment' when describing a hotel room. Spelling is generally accurate, with the exception of 'appartment' (apartment). The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, though it lacks the variety and precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I am writing to express my dissatisfaction...' and 'Considering the inconvenience I experienced, I would also like to request...'. While many sentences are error-free, there are some grammatical lapses, such as the informal 'And also i want you...' which contains a capitalization error and a slightly awkward structure. Punctuation is generally handled well, but the sentence structure in the third paragraph is a bit disjointed. Overall, the grammar is functional and does not impede communication.
