Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You successfully covered all parts of the prompt: you described the problem with the drainage and the toilet seat, you stated what you think should be done, and you asked the building manager to visit. However, your response has a negative impact on Task Achievement because the word count is 144 words, which is below the mandatory 150-word minimum specified in the instructions. Consequently, this leads to a task penalty. While your ideas are relevant and directly address the requirements of a General Training Task 1 letter, the under-length requirement prevents you from scoring higher. To improve, ensure you expand slightly on your descriptions or propose more detail regarding the required repairs to comfortably exceed the minimum word limit.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

Your letter follows a logical structure appropriate for a semi-formal complaint. You start with a clear opening statement of purpose, move on to specific details about the apartment problems, request a visit, and conclude with next steps. You used basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Apart from this', and 'I would also like to request', which help guide the reader through your points. Paragraphing is mostly used correctly to separate different ideas, although some sentences feel slightly disjointed. Referencing is generally clear, for example, using 'it' to refer to the toilet seat. To reach a higher band, ensure smoother transitions between your sentences and maintain a consistent layout throughout the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrated an adequate vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday issues such as a 'drainage system' and a 'toilet seat'. You made a few vocabulary and spelling errors, such as spelling 'toilet' as 'toilete', writing 'on my mention number below' instead of 'mentioned', and using 'assistance' where 'cooperation' or 'reply' might be more natural. There are also slight collocations issues like 'not properly fixed' instead of 'out of order'. Nonetheless, your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly without impeding the reader's understanding.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempted a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I would appreciate if you can replace it, instead of repairing the toilet seat.' However, you made several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings throughout the text. For instance, 'the problem my family has been facing for the last 2 weeks in my apartment 401' lacks a preposition before the apartment number, and 'until it not replaced' contains a missing auxiliary verb. Additionally, the sign-off 'Your faithfully' contains a minor grammatical error and should be 'Yours faithfully'. Despite these errors, your meaning remains clear, and the sentences are generally understandable.
