Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The candidate addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. First, the problem is clearly described, noting the parking crisis and how cars occupy multiple spaces. Second, the writer suggests potential solutions, including putting up instructions, issuing parking passes, and establishing a strict policy against outsiders. Third, the building manager is asked to visit the apartment to witness the issue firsthand. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a building manager. While the ideas are relevant and cover all parts of the task well, they could be slightly more extended and polished for a higher band. Overall, the requirements for Task Achievement are comfortably met, aligning with a Band 6.5 descriptor.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is divided into three distinct paragraphs, which logically follow the structure of describing the problem, proposing solutions, and making a final request. However, cohesion within the paragraphs is somewhat mechanical and basic. For example, sentences are frequently strung together with simple connectives or run-on structures, such as 'when i come back from office than i have to spend...'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and transitional phrases lack variety. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct ideas, ensuring an overall coherent arrangement. The mechanical nature of the cohesive devices and occasional faulty referencing place this criterion firmly at Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The candidate uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'parking crisis', 'basement area', and 'beneficial for everbody'. However, there are notable limitations and word-choice errors, such as 'everday' instead of 'every day', 'we have lot of' instead of 'a lot of', and 'arrange possible outcome' instead of 'find a workable solution'. Less common lexical items are attempted with some inaccuracy. Spelling and punctuation errors, such as lowercase 'i' throughout and missing apostrophes, occur frequently. Although communication is not impeded, the frequent lexical slips and basic phrasing cap this score at Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional and relative clauses ('when i come back from office than i have to...', 'that can be beneficial for everbody'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak. There are frequent errors in tense usage ('everytime there was situation that i faced'), modal verb constructions ('we should have to put', 'You should have to talk'), and capitalization (failing to capitalize 'I' and proper names like 'Jaiveer singh'). Punctuation is also neglected in places. While communication remains clear, the high frequency of grammatical and mechanical errors prevents the score from reaching Band 6.0.
