Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response covers all three bullet points required by the task: you described the problem with the bathroom leakage, broken lights, and lock, suggested that the manager repair them, and asked him to visit the apartment. However, the tone and register need slight refinement to fit a formal complaint letter, and the response falls short of the 150-word minimum, containing only 133 words. This negative word count impacts the task achievement score. To reach a higher band, ensure your response meets the length requirement and expands slightly more on the impact of the maintenance issues.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter is somewhat coherent and presents a logical progression of ideas, beginning with the purpose of the letter, moving into the problems and solutions, and concluding with a call to action. However, paragraphing is poorly handled, with multiple ideas clustered together into dense blocks rather than separated logically. Cohesive devices are minimal, and there are punctuation and capitalization issues throughout the text, such as 'i thing' and 'Bathroom leakage'. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall mechanical formatting prevents the letter from achieving a higher band score.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to successfully convey the apartment maintenance issues. You attempt some less common vocabulary such as 'household chores' and 'earliest convenience'. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors, including 'reapair', 'coged' (clogged), 'properply', and 'sincerly'. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they are noticeable and demonstrate a limited control over word formation and spelling, aligning the response with a Band 6 lexical profile.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I am writing this letter to draw your attention towards my apartment' and 'I would really appreciate if you could look into this matter'. There are several grammatical errors and punctuation mistakes, including missing capitalization, incorrect prepositions ('attention towards' instead of 'attention to'), and subject-verb agreement issues like 'facing few problems'. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear and communication is not impeded. Complex structures are attempted with varying degrees of accuracy.
