Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student has attempted all parts of the task prompt, including describing the problem, suggesting a solution, and asking the building manager to visit. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and the tone fluctuates. For instance, the description of the problem lacks clarity due to phrasing such as 'there are several block into main pipe of building from 2 months' and 'due to likage of water riot my furnitures'. While the core communicative intent is present, the message is occasionally obscured by unclear explanations. The purpose of the letter is generally covered, but because key details about the damage and desired actions lack full development and clarity, this performance aligns best with Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter exhibits basic paragraphing, though the paragraph structure is fragmented with several very short paragraphs and single-sentence lines (e.g. 'I am writing this letter regarding issues in the apartment.' and 'my name is Shraddha.'). Cohesive devices are used in a rudimentary way, such as 'firstly', 'due to that', and 'because of that', but referencing is often unclear (e.g. 'bed small spreded into my apartment environment it give me negative vibes'). There is a lack of smooth progression between ideas, and the overall organization feels disjointed. Paragraphing choices do not consistently support a logical flow. These features reflect the characteristics of a Band 5.0 response.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with several noticeable word-choice errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include 'block' instead of blockage, 'selling' instead of ceiling, 'riot' instead of ruined, and 'bed small' instead of bad smell. While the writer attempts some less common phrases like 'apartment environment' and 'negative vibes', inaccurate collocations and spelling mistakes ('likage', 'spreded', 'faithfully') restrict the range. The lexical resource is minimally adequate for the task, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student uses a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences alongside poorly formed complex constructions. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including punctuation and capitalization issues (e.g. lowercase 'my', 'currently', 'due', 'your faithfully'). Major structural errors include 'Recently, I am facing a few problems firstly, there are several block into main pipe' and 'I hope I will hear you back from you soon as possible in positive way.' These persistent errors cause difficulty for the reader and demonstrate a lack of control over complex sentence forms, placing the grammar at Band 4.5, rounded to Band 5.0.
