Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Smith,
I am writing to draw your attention on the issues that I am recently facing in the appartment. I have been living in your rented place for about 2 years now and i always enjoyed living at this place due to its beautiful vie
I apprecialte all the benifits that the appartment offers such as free wifi, Fully air conditioned, suitable distance from work palace to appartment, etcetera. However, It also present certain drawbacks. For instance, the top of the walls leaks when water falls on it. As a result, it creates a problem for me to sleep at night stressfree.
It would be really appreciated if you call the plumbers to fix tis problem at your earliest convinience. I hope you could visit the apartment and examine the downside deeply and act accordingly
I look forward to getting a repared wall as soon as possible.
Yours faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, satisfying the requirements for describing the problem, suggesting a solution, and asking the building manager to visit. The tone is appropriately formal for a letter to a building manager. Relevant ideas are presented, such as the water leakage from the top of the walls and the request for a plumber. However, some aspects are slightly under-developed or less fully explored, such as the specific details regarding the damage caused, which places the response firmly within the expected performance level. To reach higher bands, the writer would need to extend and support all ideas more thoroughly, providing clearer elaboration on the nature of the issue.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter maintains a generally coherent overall arrangement, with a clear beginning and ending formula appropriate for correspondence. Paragraphing is utilised to separate the introduction, the body paragraphs discussing the benefits and drawbacks, and the concluding request. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or features faulty referencing, such as the abrupt transition between sentences and paragraphs like 'However, It also present certain drawbacks.' To achieve a stronger score, the writer needs to improve the flow between sentences by using a wider range of cohesive devices more naturally and ensuring that referencing throughout the text is entirely clear and smooth.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with attempts to include less common items such as 'draw your attention' and 'examine the downside deeply'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'appartment', 'apprecialte', 'benifits', 'convinience', and 'repared', along with collocation issues like 'attention on the issues' instead of 'attention to the issues'. These errors indicate an adequate range for basic communication, but spelling and precision issues prevent a higher rating. To improve, the writer should focus on expanding their precise vocabulary and eliminating spelling inaccuracies in common terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like 'I am writing to draw your attention' and 'It would be really appreciated if you call...'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as incorrect preposition use ('attention on the issues'), capitalization issues ('It also present' and 'i always enjoyed'), and tense shifts. Nonetheless, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. To reach the next band, the student should aim to increase the frequency of error-free complex sentences and exercise better control over punctuation and subject-verb agreement.
