Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all bullet points required by the prompt, clearly describing the problem with the oven, suggesting a repair or replacement, and asking the building manager to visit. The purpose of the letter is clear, and a semi-formal tone is attempted. However, the ideas are slightly limited and lack full development, which prevents a higher rating. Furthermore, the length requirement of 150 words is not met, as the response contains only 137 words. To reach a higher level, the writer should extend the ideas by adding more detail about when the appliance malfunctioned and how it has inconvenienced daily life, while ensuring the word count minimum is satisfied.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, separating the introduction, the proposed solutions, and the invitation to visit the apartment. Logical progression is evident, moving naturally from the description of the fault to the requested actions. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as transitional words like 'Moreover', though referencing is sometimes slightly mechanical. While the basic structure is sound, cohesion lacks the flexibility and seamless flow required for higher bands. To improve, the writer should integrate more varied cohesive phrases to link sentences and ideas more smoothly across paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

An adequate vocabulary range is deployed for the task, allowing the student to communicate the issue effectively. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'technical issues' and 'waranty', but there are noticeable spelling errors ('waranty', 'cure') and minor word choice slips ('problem i faced from last week' instead of 'since last week'). These lexical errors do not impede overall communication, but they restrict the score to this level. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to expand their range of vocabulary, improve spelling accuracy, and use more precise collocations when discussing mechanical or household problems.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional structures ('if there is a way to replace it then it works'). There are some errors in grammar, punctuation, and capitalization, including lower-case 'i', missing articles ('with new one'), and incorrect verb forms ('It have some technical issues', 'how it should be cure'). However, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. To reach the next level, the writer should eliminate basic agreement errors, ensure correct capitalization and punctuation, and demonstrate greater control over a wider variety of complex grammatical structures.
