Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to express my concern about the apartment number 25 in building 4 which needs reparis in some things.
To begin with, I just moved here for two dyas ago and I saw that the lock for the main door is not working properly. As a result, I can't sleep well in night because the thought makes me scared if someone comes inside and I can't even go outside. Apart from that, the WiFi serice isn't working which causes me problems in my office work.
Furthermore, if it is possible to call someone to build the lock as soon as possible, so I can live comefortable here. Also, please check the WiFi as well so, I can complete my work on time.
I want to request you to come in my apartment to see the things so you can understand better and can find a solution.
Thank you for your time and attention. I hope you will take action regarding this as soon as possible.
Yours faithfully,
Kajal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requested points: you identify the faulty main-door lock and Wi-Fi, explain their effects on your safety and work, suggest repairs, and ask the manager to visit. The purpose is clear throughout, and the details about being unable to sleep comfortably and complete office work help explain why action is needed. To make the ideas more fully developed, specify what repair or inspection you expect—for example, replacing or adjusting the lock and checking the router or connection—and suggest a suitable time for the visit. The request to “call someone to build the lock” is understandable but does not clearly describe the repair. Overall, the letter covers the task clearly, with some details that could be more precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear sequence: it introduces the problem, describes its effects, proposes action, and then asks for a visit. Paragraph breaks support this progression, and linking phrases such as “To begin with,” “As a result,” and “Apart from that” help connect the information. The closing is also appropriate for a formal letter. Some transitions feel slightly mechanical, particularly “Furthermore,” before the repair request, and the two problems could be separated or linked more smoothly so the reader can distinguish the security issue from the Wi-Fi issue. The phrase “see the things” is also vague as a reference to the problems. More precise linking and referencing would make the organisation feel more natural while preserving the clear overall progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main concerns, using relevant terms such as “main door,” “lock,” “WiFi,” and “office work.” However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “reparis,” “dyas,” “serice,” and “comefortable.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise: “build the lock” does not clearly mean repair or replace it, and “see the things” is vague. Aim for accurate, natural collocations such as “repair the door lock,” “inspect the Wi-Fi connection,” and “visit my apartment to assess the problems.” This would give the letter a more controlled range of vocabulary without changing its clear, practical message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mixture of simple and longer sentences, including a cause-and-effect structure in “As a result, I can't sleep well in night because…” and a request with “so I can…”. The main meaning remains understandable, but errors in sentence construction and grammatical patterns are frequent enough to affect fluency. For example, “I just moved here for two dyas ago” has an incorrect time expression, while “come in my apartment” needs a different preposition. The sentence beginning “Furthermore, if it is possible…” is awkwardly formed and does not complete its conditional structure smoothly. Practise accurate time expressions, prepositions, and complete conditional requests, and check punctuation around clauses. More consistently controlled sentences would strengthen the letter.
