Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Taylor,
The intent of this correspondence is to bring this matter to your attention and seek an appropriate resolution.
Regarding this issue, I would like to highlight a few important observations. I noticed that our air-conditioning system is not working properly. Furthermore, looks like only fan is working even if system is turned on the cool setting. I found out about that few days back. Regrettably this sutuation has resulted in suffocation due to that reason especially, in evening time.
To resolve this matter satisfactorily, I would like you to repair this problem as soon as possible. Additionally, If you can provide small cooler for our bedroom that will be immensely beneficial.
Moreover, If you would like to come and visit our apartment then you can come anytime before 12 PM in the afternoon.
I extend my appreciation for your consideration and I anticipate your valued response at your earliest convenience.
Yours sincerely,
Maitri Bavarva

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
You address all three requested points: you explain that the air-conditioning is not cooling, request a repair and a temporary cooler, and invite the manager to visit before noon. The problem is clear, and the effect on comfort gives the request a relevant reason. The letter also maintains a suitably polite purpose throughout. To make the response more fully developed, give a little more precise detail about the fault—for example, whether the unit has been checked or how long it has failed—and make the proposed visit request more direct by asking the manager to arrange a specific time. The temporary cooler is a useful suggestion, but its connection to the repair could be explained more clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear overall sequence: it introduces the purpose, describes the air-conditioning problem, proposes solutions, and closes with a visit invitation and polite sign-off. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “To resolve this matter,” and “Moreover” make the progression easy to follow. However, several transitions feel formulaic, and the repeated formal framing (“Regarding this issue” and “Moreover”) makes the letter less natural. The visit request would connect more smoothly to the repair proposal if you stated directly that the manager should inspect the unit and suggest a convenient appointment. Overall, the organisation is clear, though cohesion is not consistently flexible.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the situation, including “air-conditioning system,” “repair,” “beneficial,” and “consideration.” The formal tone is generally maintained, and the reader can understand the problem and requested action. Some less common expressions are not used naturally: “the intent of this correspondence” is unnecessarily elaborate for a building-manager letter, while “resulted in suffocation” overstates the discomfort described. There is also a spelling error in “sutuation,” and phrases such as “only fan is working” and “in evening time” are imprecise or awkward. Prefer straightforward, accurate wording such as “the fan runs, but the unit does not cool” and “the room becomes uncomfortably hot in the evening.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the conditional request “If you can provide a small cooler…” and the clause beginning “even if the system is turned on…”. Meaning remains clear despite some grammatical errors. For example, “Furthermore, looks like only fan is working” needs a subject and article: “Furthermore, it looks as though only the fan is working.” “I found out about that few days back” needs an article and a more suitable time expression, such as “I noticed this a few days ago.” Capitalisation after commas is also inconsistent in “Additionally, If” and “Moreover, If.” Check articles, sentence completeness, and punctuation while retaining your attempts at varied structures.
