Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Singh,
Hope you are doing fine. I am writing this letter regarding an issue in my apartment that required repairment.
Water leakage is the primary concern I am facing. There is a water leakage from the bathroom Taps. Another issue is with the fridge; it is not cooling at all ,because of this, my food did not stay fresh.
I think there is need of replacement of water taps in the bathroom so the bathroom reamins clean.Professional needs to come and look for the problem with the fridge because I am not aware about the issue with the it. If possible you could send a professional team to inspect the house which will help us to determine the furthur problerms.
I would request you to visit the apartment because like wise you would able to understand the problem. I am free on coming weekands therefore you can come any time during the weekands.
I would be waiting for you and hope you resolve this issue sooner.
Yours sincerlly,
Arshdeep Kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three requirements: it describes leaking bathroom taps and a fridge that is not cooling, proposes replacing the taps and having a professional inspect the fridge, and asks Mr Singh to visit. The request is clear, and the writer gives a reason for the visit: “you would able to understand the problem.” The availability information also helps make the request practical. To strengthen the response further, explain the impact or urgency of each problem more precisely and make the proposed action for the taps clearer—for example, ask the manager to arrange a repair or replacement. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently extended overall, though some details remain general, such as “determine the further problems.”
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall progression: it introduces the purpose, describes the two problems, suggests action, and then requests a visit. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and phrases such as “Another issue” and “because of this” help connect information. This gives the reader a coherent account of what is wrong and what is being requested. However, some links are mechanical or unclear, particularly “which will help us to determine the further problems,” and the transition from the leaking taps to the fridge could be smoother. The closing also repeats the request to visit and resolve the issue. More precise referencing and a less repetitive final paragraph would make the cohesion more flexible and natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses enough vocabulary to communicate the repair issues and requests, including “water leakage,” “replacement,” “inspect,” and “professional team.” However, noticeable word-choice, collocation, word-form, and spelling errors limit precision. “Repairment” is not the natural noun here; “repairs” or “repair work” would fit. “Bathroom Taps” has an unnecessary capital, while “remains,” “further,” “problems,” and “sincerely” are misspelled. Phrases such as “the fridge is not cooling at all” are understandable but could be expressed more naturally as “the fridge is not working properly.” Aim to use accurate, conventional phrases for maintenance requests and check spelling carefully; this would make the message more fluent and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter attempts both simple and more complex sentences, including the explanation “because of this, my food did not stay fresh” and the conditional request “If possible you could send a professional team.” Meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms are noticeable. For example, “There is a water leakage from the bathroom Taps” would be more naturally structured as “The bathroom taps are leaking,” and “there is need of replacement” is missing an article and uses an awkward grammatical pattern. In “you would able to understand,” the modal construction needs “be”; “the issue with the it” also contains an unnecessary pronoun. Review articles, modal verb patterns, and sentence boundaries, and proofread punctuation to improve accuracy.
