Student answer (Band 7.5)
Many parents choose to send their children to preschool at the age of three or four, while others prefer to wait until they are ready for primary school. Although the trend of pre-schooling has some drawbacks, I believe its benefits are greater.
The main advantage of sending children to preschool is that it improves children's social development. At preschool, children interact with classmates and teachers, which teaches them how to communicate, share, and cooperate with others. These activities help them to become more confident and independent before entering primary school.
In addition, preschools introduce children to basic learning concepts such as numbers, letters, colors, and shapes through enjoyable activities, which, as a result, make it easier for children to adapt to formal education.
However, there are some disadvantages of sending children to preschools. It lessens the bond with parents because children spend most of the day in preschools; they have fewer opportunities to spend quality time with their parents and grandparents. The early years are more important to create a bond with children, teaching them family values and developing strong relationships.
Moreover, some preschools place too much pressure on academic performance rather than on learning through play, which can make them feel stressed and bored with learning. As a result, it can affect their growth.
In conclusion, while sending children to preschool early brings a notable benefit, such as boosting their social skills from a young age, it also presents a serious drawback, such as reducing the essential bonding time between parents and their children.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both advantages and disadvantages of preschool. The position is clear from the introduction and maintained throughout. Ideas are relevant, such as social development and academic preparation as advantages, and reduced parental bonding and potential stress as disadvantages. However, the development of these points is somewhat brief. To reach a higher band, the arguments could be extended with more specific examples or deeper analysis of the long-term implications of these points. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, ensuring the task requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a central theme, moving from advantages to disadvantages. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'However', 'Moreover', and 'As a result' are used effectively to link sentences and paragraphs. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the flow of information is easy to follow. While the use of cohesive devices is functional and clear, it is somewhat standard; incorporating a wider variety of linking phrases or more sophisticated referencing could enhance the overall cohesion to a higher level.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The vocabulary used is adequate and appropriate for the task. The student uses topic-specific terms like 'social development', 'formal education', and 'academic performance' correctly. There is an attempt to use some less common vocabulary, though the range remains somewhat limited. The word choice is generally accurate, and there are no spelling errors that impede communication. To improve, the student should aim to incorporate more precise collocations and a wider range of academic vocabulary to demonstrate greater flexibility and precision in expressing complex ideas.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The essay demonstrates a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are grammatically accurate, and punctuation is used correctly. There are no major errors that cause confusion for the reader. The student successfully uses complex structures, such as 'Although the trend of pre-schooling has some drawbacks, I believe its benefits are greater.' While the control of grammar is solid, the range of complex structures could be further expanded to include more varied subordinate clauses or passive constructions to demonstrate a higher level of grammatical sophistication.
