Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses both the advantages and disadvantages of preschool, but the development of ideas is limited. While you mention social skills and intellectual growth as benefits, and bullying or emotional stress as drawbacks, these points are not fully extended with sufficient depth or specific evidence. The response is also slightly under the 250-word minimum, which impacts the overall development of the argument. To improve, ensure each point is supported by a clear, detailed example or explanation to meet the requirements of a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'Furthermore', they are occasionally used mechanically or incorrectly. The concluding paragraph is incomplete, which disrupts the logical flow of the essay. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects logically to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of word-choice errors and non-standard phrasing, such as 'progenitors' (which is overly formal/biological in this context), 'juvilean', and 'gain new habiats'. Some words are used incorrectly, such as 'things' instead of 'issues' or 'events'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise vocabulary and collocations that are appropriate for an academic discussion, and ensure you check your spelling of key terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You frequently make errors with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'other wants to wait'), articles, and pluralisation (e.g., 'there are conflict'). Additionally, there are punctuation errors and sentence fragments, particularly in the final paragraph. While these errors do not always prevent understanding, they occur frequently enough to impede the flow of the text. Focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring your sentences are complete.
