Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both the advantages and disadvantages of preschool, though the development of these points is uneven. The advantages are clearly articulated, focusing on academic and social preparation. However, the disadvantages section is underdeveloped and lacks clarity; the mention of 'multi-cultural environment' is not clearly linked to a disadvantage, and the argument regarding parents wanting to avoid 'outside influence' is vague. While a position is established in the conclusion, the overall development of the negative aspects is insufficient to reach a higher band. The response covers the requirements of the prompt but lacks the depth of analysis expected for a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'On the contrary' are used to link ideas. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the logical progression is slightly disjointed, particularly in the third paragraph where the argument about multiculturalism is left incomplete. Referencing is generally clear, but the transition between the advantages and disadvantages could be smoother to improve the overall coherence of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning. However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'an english letters' and 'basic math numbers', which demonstrate a lack of precision. The essay relies on basic vocabulary and lacks the more sophisticated or idiomatic expressions that would characterize a higher band. While the meaning is clear throughout, the lexical range does not show the flexibility or precision required for a score above 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that, while not impeding communication, are noticeable. Examples include 'sending a younger children' (plural/article error), 'must be examine' (passive voice error), 'a children should learn' (article/number error), and 'before move to the primary school' (verb form error). These errors occur throughout the text. While the writer attempts complex structures, the control over these is inconsistent, and the frequency of errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band for grammatical accuracy.
