Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often noticed that many parents send their children to preschools at an early age. Others parents wait until their children are old enough for primary school. This essay will discuss the benefits and drawbacks of sending children to preschool at young age.

One of the main advantages of sending children school at an early age is childen may become independent in their young age because at home they are completely dependent on their mothers for meals ;however, at school they eat their lunch by themeself instead of with the help of parents. Another benefit is that children can enhance different kinds of skills in their early age . At preschool teacher teach students not only about how to speak with elders but also sharing is caring . For example, in Canada, the majority of parents send their children at daycare as they do not have enough time for them ,and their children learn a number of things from daycares. Especially, how keep their toys at right place after playing with them rather than though on the floor. Thus, children start stay in discipline from the age of four.

Despite having advantages, the disadvantages cannot be neglected. The predominent one is that at an early age children need proper diet to grow healthy, which they can have at their homes . As, in preschools , schools often have only 2 breaks. Whereas, children should have several meals in a day and 2 proper naps , which are crucial for their well-being. Furthermore, at an early age if children spend a significant amount of time at a daycare , they may not have a strong bound with their parents because they devote more time with teachers instead of with their family . Hence, Parents should spend a quality with children.

In conclusion, although there are may benefits of joining pre school at the age of 3 or 4, drawbacks cannot be overloked by parents like childrens' health and a strong bond between parents and child.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both the advantages and disadvantages of preschool as requested. The ideas are relevant, such as the development of independence and social skills as benefits, and nutritional/emotional concerns as drawbacks. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the 'strong bound' with parents is mentioned but not fully explored in terms of long-term impact. The position is clear throughout, and the essay follows a logical structure that covers all parts of the prompt. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more nuanced explanations and perhaps a more balanced conclusion that synthesizes the points rather than just listing them.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs. Each paragraph has a central theme, and there is a progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices like 'One of the main advantages', 'Another benefit', and 'Despite having advantages', which help the flow. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical or slightly misused, such as the semicolon usage before 'however' and the awkward phrasing 'As, in preschools'. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences more naturally rather than relying on simple additive connectors.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'independent', 'predominent', and 'well-being'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'though on the floor' (instead of 'thrown'), 'start stay in discipline', and 'devote more time' (instead of 'spend'). There are also minor spelling errors like 'childen' and 'overloked'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage and better attention to word forms to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('at daycare'), pluralization ('Others parents'), and verb forms ('teacher teach'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, especially regarding the placement of commas and semicolons. For example, 'As, in preschools , schools often have...' contains unnecessary punctuation that disrupts the flow. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, as these errors occur frequently throughout the text and detract from the overall accuracy.
