Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both advantages and disadvantages of preschool. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention social benefits like avoiding bullying and routine building, the arguments regarding disadvantages are less clearly structured and rely heavily on personal anecdotes rather than broader societal or developmental perspectives. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with clear explanations or illustrative examples that go beyond personal experience. The introduction is a bit repetitive, and the conclusion is missing, which affects the overall clarity of your position.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'So that’s why' or 'But'. The transition between ideas is often abrupt, and the logical flow within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'conversely', 'consequently'). Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when switching between the child's perspective and the parents' perspective. Improving the variety of transition signals would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several spelling errors (e.g., 'toodlers', 'idiology', 'happits', 'prechool') and some awkward word choices, such as 'school commencing era' and 'admit their children'. While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'nuclear family system', the overall range is limited. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensure you proofread for basic spelling mistakes, as these errors occasionally distract the reader from your main points.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'prechool also have'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'he has not any interaction'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the text from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence structure, particularly the correct use of articles and verb tenses, will help improve your accuracy.
