Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The essay addresses the prompt by discussing both advantages and disadvantages of preschool. However, the development of ideas is often unclear due to significant language errors. For instance, the argument regarding the 'loss' of children in teenage years is not logically connected to the decision to attend preschool, making the point difficult to follow. While the response covers the required parts of the task, the lack of clarity in expressing these ideas means the response is only partially developed. To improve, ensure that each point is clearly explained with logical reasoning rather than fragmented thoughts.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is frequently inaccurate or mechanical, such as the awkward transition 'On the hand' or the misuse of 'Despite' at the end of the essay. Referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the writer's train of thought. To reach a higher band, focus on using linking words more naturally and ensuring that each sentence flows logically from the previous one.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and often inappropriate for the context. There are frequent errors in word choice, such as 'half number of people' instead of 'some people', and 'walking period' instead of 'a young age'. The student attempts to use more complex vocabulary like 'juveniles' and 'academic competation', but these are often used incorrectly or misspelled. The vocabulary is just about adequate to convey the basic message, but the frequent inaccuracies and non-standard collocations significantly hinder the precision of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('communities are supports'), tense usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack a clear subject and verb, such as 'the government policy who follow the age rules'. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, these are almost always faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that subjects and verbs agree before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
