Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both the advantages and disadvantages of preschool as requested. The position is clear, and the main ideas—child development and parental flexibility—are relevant. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the discussion on disadvantages is brief and relies on general assertions rather than deep analysis. While the prompt asks for a discussion of advantages and disadvantages, the essay leans heavily toward the advantages, and the counter-arguments regarding safety and finance are addressed in a somewhat simplistic manner. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced explanations and concrete examples to support your points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic progression of ideas, and cohesive devices such as 'The first and foremost advantage,' 'Furthermore,' and 'In addition' are used to link sentences. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by grammatical errors. The referencing is generally clear, but the concluding paragraph is quite abrupt and does not effectively synthesize the arguments presented in the body paragraphs. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'enrolment,' 'flexibility,' and 'financial burden.' However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'parents busy routine' instead of 'parents' busy routines' and 'makes meaningful connection' instead of 'make meaningful connections.' The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and there is a tendency to repeat basic words. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and precise academic vocabulary to demonstrate a wider range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of the writing. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('These all helps child,' 'majority of school’s provide'), missing articles ('in recent years, governments are providing free education for children upto 10 years old'), and punctuation errors. While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To achieve a higher band, you need to demonstrate better control over complex structures and proofread carefully to eliminate basic grammatical slips.
