Student answer (Band 6.0)

While some parents prefer to enroll their children in preschool in very young age, others send directly in the primary school instead of preschool to their young ones when they get older. Sending children to preschool at a young age have both merits and demerits, its benefits significantly far more than drawbacks.

One main advantage of enrolling children at preschool when they are three or four years old is because they can learn important skills. When student go to preschool, they get chance to meet new children that are their age mates, so they can interact with them which help them to develop their communication skill. In addition, if they play with their peers in groups, they can start learning valuable life skills from their early age, such as sharing, caring, teamwork, and cooperation. As a result, these skills can be fruitful for them in their future.

Another benefit of early education is children start recognize basic alphabets. This is because when they start to go to school then they are taught basic alphabets, numbers, and shapes. So, they not only recognize them but also learn how to pronounce. Therefore, they become more confident when they start primary education than other students who start late.

However, starting education at the earliest age is not without its drawbacks. Early period of childhood is more precious for development as children develop physically as well as mentally. When they are sent to school in the early age by their parents, they feel a considerable amount of pressure, which can restrict their holistic growth.

In conclusion, despite having the development problems of starting early education for young ones, it is largely beneficial for children as they can learn social skills, alphabet recognization and pronounciation. The associated problems can be solved by making learning activities more interesting and engaging.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of preschool. The position is clear from the introduction, and the main ideas—social development and academic preparation as benefits, and potential stress as a drawback—are relevant. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about 'holistic growth' is mentioned but not fully explained or supported with specific examples. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your arguments with more detailed explanations or concrete examples to ensure the discussion is fully developed rather than just stated.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'As a result', 'However', and 'In conclusion' are used to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the slightly awkward phrasing in the opening sentence. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, though the transition between the benefits and the drawbacks could be smoother.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. You use some topic-specific terms like 'holistic growth', 'peers', and 'cooperation'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and word formation, such as 'alphabet recognization' (should be 'recognition') and 'pronounciation' (spelled 'pronunciation'). Some phrases are slightly unnatural, such as 'in very young age' (should be 'at a very young age'). While the range is sufficient to convey your meaning, more precise and varied vocabulary would enhance the quality of the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the primary school'), subject-verb agreement ('Sending children... have'), and pluralization ('student go'). Some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'others send directly in the primary school instead of preschool to their young ones'. These errors do not impede communication, but they are noticeable. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage, and try to incorporate more complex structures with greater accuracy.
