Student answer (Band 6.0)

It has been commonly seen that some children are sent to preschool by their parents, when they are three or four years old, while others wait to get them older enough for primary school. Preschool learning brings some positive and negative outcomes for children at young age.

On the positive side, one significant benefit of sending a child to preschool at an early age is learn basic manners. When toddlers start to go preschool when they are near about three or four years old, then they get an opportunity to learn about some basic etiquettes such as how to communicate, respect and how to sit in discipline, especially in the classroom. This enrollment in kindergarten helps them to become able for primary schooling by learning such fundamental skills and manners.

Additionally, for the parents, by sending their children's to kindergarten, they feel relax after working around a clock. This means that if parents involve their children in preschool early, then they might not have need to hire any caretaker for them, particularly in their absence, helping them to save their money and time which they spend to hire any trustworthy caretaker for them. As a result, they feel relax and stress free after sending their children to preschool even at their workplace.

Preschools, conversely, has some disadvantages for children at an early age. For example, when children are younger then do not have knowledge about that what is wrong and right for them, so, sometimes they some children involve in bad companies when they firstly go out from the comfort of their house, and they become addicted to some bad habits, including robbery, fighting and hiding the truth, resulting in sometimes rebelling in front of elders.

By attending preschools also put burden on them at an early age when they have to stay away from their parents. The time of joining preschools is one of the most difficult times when they have learn under the supervision of strangers at first time, which sometime put burden and stress on their mind, that how to learn from others, and they have limited time to spend with their nurturers . They feel stress to obtaining knowledge about new things at the early age which put pressure on their mind.

To sum up, while preschools play an crucial roles to learn basic manners and parents feel relax and independent by sending them kindergarten, sometimes they get involved in the bad habits and feel under pressure to adjust in new environment outside the four walls of their house at an early age.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both the advantages and disadvantages of preschool education. The ideas are relevant, such as social development and parental convenience for advantages, and potential behavioral issues or stress for disadvantages. However, the development of these points is somewhat uneven. The argument regarding 'bad companies' and 'robbery' in the context of preschool children is an over-generalization and lacks logical grounding, which weakens the overall persuasiveness. While the position is clear, the supporting examples could be more realistic and better articulated to reach a higher band. The response covers all parts of the prompt, but the depth of analysis remains somewhat superficial in places.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the positive side', 'Additionally', and 'Conversely', which help guide the reader through the argument. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'they might not have need to hire any caretaker for them', where the pronoun usage is slightly confusing. Paragraphing is generally appropriate, though the transition between the discussion of benefits and drawbacks could be smoother to improve the overall flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'get them older enough', 'learn basic manners' (should be 'learning'), and 'feel relax' (should be 'relaxed'). The phrase 'working around a clock' is an incorrect idiom. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'kindergarten' and 'nurturers', the overall range is limited, and the errors in word form and collocation occasionally distract the reader, though they do not prevent communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there is a high frequency of grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('Preschools, conversely, has'), incorrect verb forms ('they have learn'), and missing articles or prepositions ('at first time', 'in the bad habits'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure is often repetitive. While the meaning is usually clear, the persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction indicate that the student has not yet mastered complex structures, limiting the score in this criterion.
