Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is often argued by parents that what would be the perfect age to introduce a toddler with schooling environment. Some parents prefer sending their young ones to preschools when they are three or four years old, while other parents criticise the concept of preschools and prefer to send their kids directly to primary schools. In the upcoming essay, I will discuss both positives and negatives of enrolling the young ones in the kindergardens.

To commence with, the most proponent advantage of sending kids to the preschools is that they will develop learning skills and social habits early in their lives. Preschools engage kids in fun learning activities to make them familier with different subjects such as english, science, and maths. Participation in such environment boost their conginitive skills. Moreover, preschools are designed to make kids comfortable with other kids by involving them in multiple competetions such as drawing, writing, and art. Consequently, this will teach kids how to behave in social space. For instance, it is noticed that the students who have attended the preschools perform better not only in academics but also in professional career.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which severely limits the development of ideas. While the introduction sets up the discussion, the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly after the first body paragraph. The prompt asks for both advantages and disadvantages, but the response only begins to address the advantages and fails to provide any disadvantages or a conclusion. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. To improve, you must ensure you provide a balanced discussion with fully developed arguments for both sides and a clear concluding summary, while meeting the minimum word count requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay uses some basic cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'Consequently' to link ideas. However, because the essay is incomplete, the overall progression is interrupted. Paragraphing is attempted, but the second paragraph is left unfinished, which disrupts the logical flow of the argument. To achieve a higher band, ensure that each paragraph is fully developed with a clear topic sentence, supporting evidence, and a concluding thought, and use a wider variety of cohesive devices to connect sentences and paragraphs more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, though there are several spelling errors such as 'familier' (familiar), 'conginitive' (cognitive), and 'competetions' (competitions). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. While you attempt to use topic-specific language like 'cognitive skills' and 'social habits', the errors in spelling and word choice detract from the overall quality. To improve, focus on accurate spelling and try to incorporate more precise academic collocations to express your ideas more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains several grammatical errors that affect clarity. For example, the opening sentence 'what would be the perfect age to introduce a toddler with schooling environment' is grammatically incorrect and lacks a clear structure. There are also issues with article usage and preposition choice, such as 'in the kindergardens' instead of 'in kindergarten'. While some simple sentences are clear, the attempt at more complex structures often leads to errors. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
