Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both the advantages and disadvantages of preschool. However, the development of ideas is limited and sometimes relies on irrelevant or confusing examples. For instance, the reference to Virat Kohli to justify preschool attendance is logically weak and does not clearly explain the educational or social benefits for the child. Similarly, the example of Anil Ambani is anecdotal and lacks a clear connection to the broader debate about early childhood education. While the position is clear, the arguments lack depth and the examples provided do not effectively support the points made, resulting in a somewhat superficial treatment of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'To commence with' and 'To conclusion' are used, but the internal flow between sentences is frequently disrupted by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the transition between the parent's work schedule and the child's experience is abrupt. While there is an overall progression, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive nature of the sentence structures hinder the flow of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and repetitive. Basic terms such as 'good', 'work', and 'children' are used frequently. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'merit and demerits' (which is slightly unnatural in this context) and 'desigen' (spelling error for 'decision'). The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'nursery school' and 'preschool', but the overall control is insufficient to convey complex ideas with precision. To improve, the student needs to focus on collocations and a wider variety of synonyms to avoid repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('every parents are', 'their are some people'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple, and attempts at complex structures often result in errors, such as 'If they will not send their children to preschool they can not get time for their work.' Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and incorrect capitalisation. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of basic errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band score.
