Student answer (Band 7.0)
Some people send their children to kindergarten schools before elementary education whereas others directly enroll their children in primary schools. While this tread offers several advantages such as initial mental and physical development of the toddler and familiarization with the outside world, there can be a disadvantage like restricted child monitoring.
To commence with, the main reason why parents send their children to preschool is that they want a better overall development of their kids. Teachers in kindergarten schools engage learners with various mental and physical activities. This not only makes them familiar with the basic skill such as counting and new words but their muscles and bones also grow stronger and flexible due to play area activities. To exemplify, kids learn counting and vocabulary in their preschool stage which helps them understanding the primary school concepts easily. Additionally, teacher can teach them basic life lessons such as kindness, sharing and discipline through group activities. This not only improves their confidence but also makes them friendly with the external world.
On the other hand, one disadvantage of sending kids to preschool is that parents are not able to supervise their children. To elaborate, since each teacher in preschool has to monitor four to five kids, giving one hundred percent attention to one student is not possible. This can sometimes have dire consequences like health related issues by swallowing a tiny object or maybe an accident while playing. For instance, children can eat sand or grass which can upset their stomach.
To conclude, this essay has highlighted the merits such as better overall development and confidence building by interacting with the outside world whereas also discussed that restricted monitoring can be a credible demerit.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both advantages and disadvantages of preschool. The position is clear throughout. Ideas are relevant, such as the focus on cognitive development and social skills as advantages, and the lack of supervision as a disadvantage. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited; for example, the argument regarding 'restricted monitoring' is a bit simplistic and could have been expanded with more nuanced reasoning. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Additionally', and 'On the other hand' are used to guide the reader. While the progression is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the advantages from the disadvantages. The referencing is clear, and the essay maintains a consistent flow throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate and appropriate for the task. The student uses some topic-specific terms like 'elementary education', 'cognitive development', and 'supervise'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'kindergarten schools' (usually just 'kindergarten' or 'preschool') and 'friendly with the external world' (better expressed as 'socially adjusted'). The range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, but it lacks the more sophisticated, less common lexical items required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several error-free sentences, but some grammatical slips persist, such as 'makes them familiar with the basic skill' (should be plural 'skills') and 'teacher can teach' (should be 'teachers can teach'). Punctuation is generally accurate, though some phrasing is slightly awkward. While the errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. The control over complex structures is present but not consistently error-free.
