Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many parents would like to enroll their children into the preschool when they are about 3 or 4 years old, while other parents prefer to have their children old enough prior to their admission into primary school. There are several advantage and disadvantage of sending children to preschool at this age.

Firstly, there could be many reason for this development of sending their own children to the kindergarten around the age of 3 or 4. For instance, by enrolling children to the preschool at early age of their life, children could easily adapt to a school environment which can eventually help them to socialize with other children. As a result, their could be character developing of themselves for the real world. For example, I completed preschool when I was 4 years old, which made me a person who can deal with any kind of person.

On the other hand, sometimes preschools can be a burden on children of that age. They might get depressed with all the extra pressure of going to the school instead of playing with friends and family. They have to spend around 4 or 5 hours a day at school, so they might feel disconnected with their parents. They might not be able to communicate very freely with their parents as they will be spending more time with the teachers or with the friends at the school.

To conclude, although there are many negative aspects of sending children to preschool at early age like an increase in stress or a beginning of social distancing with parents, there are positive aspects as well. For instance, early character development which helps them to be more of an extrovert person rather than being an introvert person , as well as they will learn to adapt environment around them very easily.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both the advantages and disadvantages of preschool attendance. The ideas are relevant, such as socialization and character development as advantages, and emotional pressure or disconnection from parents as disadvantages. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For example, the argument regarding 'social distancing' with parents is a bit vague and could have been supported with more specific reasoning or examples. The position is clear, but the overall depth of the discussion remains at a basic level, preventing it from reaching a higher band. To improve, ensure that each point is fully explored with more detailed explanations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'For instance', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'their could be character developing of themselves'. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be smoother to achieve a more natural progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'extrovert' and 'introvert', but the usage is sometimes slightly imprecise, such as 'social distancing' (which usually refers to health measures) instead of 'emotional detachment'. There are also minor errors in word formation, such as 'character developing' instead of 'character development'. The range is sufficient to cover the topic, but it lacks the flexibility and precision required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'There are several advantage and disadvantage' (pluralization error), 'their could be' (confusing 'there' with 'their'), and 'adapt environment' (missing preposition). These errors are noticeable but do not significantly impede communication. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement, correct use of articles, and ensuring that complex sentence structures are constructed accurately without missing prepositions or auxiliary verbs.
