IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some parents send their children to preschool when they are three or four years old. Other parents wait until their children are old enough for primary school before they send them to school.

Give reasons for your answer, and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The importance of kids going to preschool at an early age, which was always debatable, has now become more controversial, with many people claiming that it is beneficial while others reject this notion. The substantial influence of this trend has sparked controversy over its potential impact in recent years.
Analyzing the statement and explaining it further, the first and foremost reason behind it is that kids at such a young age should be playing and enjoying their childhood rather than going to school. Secondly, if they are at home, they won't be exposed to a polluted environment, and children would be able to spend more time with their parents. Moreover, parents can guide them and teach them basic upbringing manners. For example, in Mumbai, a kid named Rama is 3 years old and has not been to school yet, but his parents made sure to teach him cultural things so he knows all the concepts about the Bhagavad Gita by heart.
On the other hand, kids in school learn new things and new activities. In addition to this, they might make new friends and learn new skills from them. For instance, schools provide lunch so kids can sit in a group, which enables them to eat and learn new cuisines while enjoying time with other members of the class.
To conclude, the children should be sent to playgroup school to enhance their productivity and also to make them familiar with the surrounding environment and help them learn to speak and manage their own chores by themself rather than letting them sit in their homes.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of preschool. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding 'polluted environments' is not clearly linked to the context of preschool, and the example of the child in Mumbai is anecdotal and does not strongly support the broader discussion of preschool benefits. The conclusion introduces a new, strong opinion ('children should be sent to playgroup') that contradicts the balanced approach suggested earlier, making the overall position slightly inconsistent. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a clear, well-explained point that directly relates to the advantages or disadvantages of the educational setting.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic cohesive devices like 'first and foremost,' 'secondly,' 'moreover,' and 'on the other hand' to transition between ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the logical progression within paragraphs could be smoother. For example, the transition from discussing home environments to the specific example of the child in Mumbai feels abrupt. Additionally, the final paragraph introduces a recommendation that feels disconnected from the previous arguments. Improving the use of referencing and more sophisticated linking words would enhance the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some relevant terms such as 'controversial,' 'beneficial,' and 'productivity.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'upbringing manners' (which is not a standard collocation) and 'playgroup school.' To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations related to child development and education, such as 'socialization,' 'cognitive development,' or 'structured learning environment,' rather than relying on more general, everyday language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'by themself' should be 'by themselves,' and the phrase 'which was always debatable' is slightly awkward in this context. There are also minor issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for pluralization and pronoun-antecedent agreement to improve the accuracy of your complex sentences.
