Student answer (Band 6.0)

Whether to send children to pre school at the age of three or four or wait untill they are old enough to go to primary school is a matter of debate among a substantial number of parents. It has both positive and negative outcomes that will be discussed in the following paragraphs with some significant examples.

To begin with the advantages of sending kids to pre school at very young age. Firstly, it helps them to build critical, social and congnitive skills from the very beginning. As a consequence, they will become more confident and intellectually competent. It contributes to shape their ability to learn and grasping skills. Moreover, creative thinking and brain development is the another significant compoment that is requird to build a strong base. By attending pre school classes, children can get involved in some mindful activities such as teamwork while facilities them to acquire knowlede of moral behaviour.

On the other side, sending children to pre school at very early stage can bring various challenges that should not be overlooked. The main problem behind this approach is that kids might face difficulties in balancing the curriculum and personal life. They can feel pressure from the school. Sometimes parents can neglect their behaviour and feeling of not being able to get comfortable among others. Since they are very young, it will be extremely challenging for them to get familiar with such kind of environment.

In conclusion, although attending pre school by the younger kids comes up with great benefits, I firmly believe that the detrimental effects should not be ignored.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both the advantages and disadvantages of preschool attendance. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention benefits like cognitive skills and teamwork, the explanation remains quite general. Similarly, the disadvantages regarding 'balancing curriculum' and 'pressure' are mentioned but not fully explored with specific examples or deeper analysis. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is supported by a concrete example or a more detailed explanation of why or how these effects occur. Your position is clear, but the overall depth of the argument is currently at a mid-level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'On the other side' to guide the reader. However, the transition between ideas within paragraphs could be smoother. For instance, the jump from 'creative thinking' to 'moral behaviour' is a bit abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly mechanical. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that sentences flow naturally into one another rather than feeling like a list of points.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'intellectually competent', 'detrimental effects', and 'cognitive skills'. There are some spelling errors, such as 'untill', 'congnitive', 'compoment', and 'requird', which slightly detract from the quality of the writing. Furthermore, some collocations are slightly unnatural, such as 'facilities them to acquire'. To improve, focus on proofreading for spelling accuracy and expanding your use of less common lexical items in a more precise, contextually appropriate manner.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'at very young age' (missing an article), 'is the another significant compoment' (incorrect article usage), and 'such kind of environment' (should be 'this kind of'). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage. To achieve a higher score, focus on mastering article usage and ensuring that complex sentence structures are constructed with greater accuracy. The majority of your sentences are understandable, but the frequency of minor errors prevents a higher score.
