Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both preschool and primary school entry, but the development of ideas is limited. While you mention advantages like social interaction and disadvantages like exposure to bad habits, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack specific, logical examples. The position is somewhat unclear, as the conclusion contradicts the earlier points made about the benefits of early schooling. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a single, well-explained point with a clear link to the prompt. Avoid generalizations and focus on providing concrete reasoning for your claims.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is frequently interrupted by unclear transitions and repetitive phrasing. While you use basic cohesive devices like 'firstly' and 'in conclusion', the connections between sentences are often weak or confusing. For example, the transition between the benefits of preschool and the potential for 'bad habits' is abrupt. The use of referencing is also problematic, as it is often unclear what 'this' or 'it' refers to in your sentences. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each sentence follows logically from the previous one will significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'good', 'bad', and 'things'. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'eassy', 'personly', and 'effectable', which occasionally make the meaning difficult to follow. You attempt to use some topic-related vocabulary, but it is often used incorrectly or in an unnatural way. To reach a higher band, you should focus on expanding your range of vocabulary to include more precise academic terms and ensure you are using words in the correct context. Proofreading for common spelling errors is also essential.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement, article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, which hinders readability. For instance, 'they get out their home they meet the new children' lacks proper punctuation and conjunctions. While you attempt some complex structures, they are often faulty, leading to confusion. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction—ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb—before attempting more complex forms. Consistent practice with punctuation and verb tenses will also help reduce the number of errors.
