IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some parents send their children to preschool when they are three or four years old. Other parents wait until their children are old enough for primary school before they send them to school.

Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of sending children to preschool at a young age.
Give reasons for your answer, and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Early education to children is a subject of debate by some parents who prefer to send them as early as three years old, while other choose to wait until their mature for primary learning. In my personal point of view, early education is important to be established at an early age to develop the fundamentals of learning. However, parents have the right to decide on what is best for their children.

On the one hand, preschool is commonly offered in schools and some parents enrolled their child at such a young age because this age group are clingy and when they are separated prematurely they develop independence and another fascinating thing about them is that they are fast learners. For instance, at home they get accustomed to being with their mothers, so they developed separation anxiety, which could be turned to independence once they are at school. Also, when they heard or taught of a song, they memorized it instantly.

On the other hand, some parents think it also has disadvantages. Children may feel exhausted and repetitive when they encounter the same lessons on their primary school. For example, teaching them alphabet all over again from preschool to primary school could trigger boredom to children and feeling of having the same cycle. Furthermore, children's mood and attention span can be affected.

In my opinion, children at an early age should be engaged in play groups instead of focusing on subjects that could feel them repetitive. Class learnings should be based on what is ultimately beneficial to certain age groups and must not be forced to achieve thier maximum potential.
